The ministry of foreign affairs is afraid of what will happen between the European Union and Andorra
The ministry, Gilbert Saboya, is concerned that the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union will change the trade relationship between Andorra, San Marino and Monaco because of the new negotiations that Europe will have to start with the UK.
After contacting the ambassador head of the EU delegation of European external action service Claude Maerteen, the ambassadress Maria Ubach, assured that the trade relationship between Andorra and the European Union will continue, although there will be a certain downtrend caused by the negotiation between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Their agreement would be similar to the one between Andorra and the EU.
Saboya commented the Liberal party’s petition to stop the trade relationship between the country and the European Union, saying that it would be irresponsible. Populist parties in many other countries are making the same petitions, asking to leave or stop trading with the EU. Andorra’s government should be diplomatic and responsible.
Next week the government of Andorra will contact Monaco and San Marino to summon an assembly and discuss the consequences of the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union and how to arrange the best deal with the EU.
